Heavy Equipment Operators are still needed

We are still in need of volunteers.  We need people who can operate heavy equipment. We have some tractors, etc. but need the operators.  All volunteers are still welcome.  When volunteers show up to register please specify if you are volunteering to do special work, i.e. chainsaw, drive equipment or if they are volunteering to do assessments.  This will help us make sure you get on the right team.

1 Week after the Tornado

Good Morning,

We first want to start off again saying our thanks to all the volunteers that have shown up to help with the recovery, to Team Rubicon for their guidance through the first days of recovery and help with accessing our immediate needs, but most important we want to say “Thank You” to our Creator for supplying for all our needs and protecting everyone out working. So far our clean up efforts have been spectacular. We are now transitioning from clean up to assessing the needs that families have. We know of right now 31 housing needs. This means that 31 families have completely lost their house. We know of another 91 families that have other needs. Starting this morning, we are sending out teams to start surveying the rest of Adairsville. The teams will be out talking with those who were hit and looking at the damage. If you would like to help, please come by the Adairsville Church of God at 9 AM any day this week to be put on a surveying team.

Quick Update

Debris removal is still in progress and trucks, front end loaders, chainsaws, etc. still can be used.  Sign in at Adairsville Church of  God between  9 & 5 this week.

The Body of Christ at Work

This past weekend was an incredible experience, with thousands of volunteers showing up to support the town of Adairsville. We know that we had over 2000 volunteers working in various capacities. Volunteers helped remove trees at an incredible rate. We know that we had 267 dump trucks filled and leave the affected area. That is absolutely incredible!

We will continue to do debris removal this week. Volunteers will continue to meet at Adairsville Church of God at 8:00 AM. Also, we will begin re-surveying the community to identify more specific and individual needs on houses that may not have insurance. As we move into a second phase of long-term recovery, please know that there will be a variety of needs that will arise. We will continue to keep people posted here to let them know what are various needs as we identify them . Once again thank you for all your help.

Please know that the “Body of Christ” honored Jesus in a special way this weekend. Also know that people from the outside said it was the best they had ever seen folks work together. When a national disaster relief organization says that this is the best they have ever seen and that they are going to write it up for a case study for Washington, that it is pretty impressive. It just goes to show what we can do when we work together under one name.

Watch out for some rumors

We have heard of a rumor going around that people will need to be per-registered to volunteer before they are allowed to help tomorrow. This is not true. If you would like to help with the disaster recovery in Adairsville, you will just need to show up at Adairsville Church of God tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM. When you arrive you will fill out some information, issued passes, be put into a group and then given instructions. We know that many of you all have filled out the “I want to volunteer” form on our site. THANK YOU so much for that. We have been able to look through all the forms and contact many of you about specific needs for tomorrow. If you didn’t get contacted, please show up tomorrow and you will be put on team. Thanks!
